Week 3 – Bottom of the Ladder

Week three was all about hustling. My Expensify app put my business mileage at over 400 mile this past week. Each day presented a new contact, potential client or opportunity for me. It has been difficult to find my sea legs when it comes to salesmanship of my new venture. With each interaction I can feel my message and pitch growing stronger as I find that voice that has so long been used for something else.

In between the meetings I have had a lot of time to reflect on being at the bottom of a new ladder. I worked my way up a corporate ladder and transitioned to my own lifestyle business ladder. Striving to create a more balanced focused between work and family. At times the lines are more blurred (Home Office) and others times they seem oceans apart (No Corporate Firedrills crowding my mind). The goal of spending more time with my family is coming closer and closer ever day. I can honestly say that I have read more with my children and done more homework over the last three weeks than I may have done all of last school year.

I have been reading a new book about life quests – The Happiness of Pursuit: Finding the Quest That Will Bring Purpose to Your Life. The book has gotten me to think about what quest should I undertake and more importantly why. Many of you will be asking what the hell is a life quest; well here are the criteria:

Example: Chris’ quest was to visit every country in the world by age 35

-Something that has a clear goal & end point
-Presents a clear challenge
-Requires sacrifice of some kind
-Driven by a calling or sense of mission
-Requires a series of small steps or incremental progress

I owe you my goals for my new lifestyle business as well as candidates for possible quests in the future. If you have any quest suggestions feel free to email me at vondols {at} gmail .com. I was going to put see Christina Aguilera at every stop on her next tour but figured that may not be the best of quests.

Other items to note this past week:

-I am 3 weeks into my new workout regimen. At about 2pm when the couch is calling for me to nap I figured then would be the best time to do squats and push-ups. Goal is to get up to 100 pushups and 200 air squats then change it up.

-Tried my had at bread making – I started easy with the 5 Min Artisan Bread

-Participated in an alumni panel at my old business fraternity @ St. Cloud State / Delta Sigma Pi – Theta Tau . It was great imparting some wisdom on a few undergraduates and other alumni. Dropped a few nudges towards the self-employed route vs. corporate america.

For everyone who made it this far…here is the quote that got me on the ladder kick:

“It’s better to be at the bottom of the ladder you want to climb than at the top of the one you don’t.” ~ Stephen Kellogg
