I made bad biscuits….

So tonight I made some pretty awful from scratch buttermilk biscuits. I am still not quite sure what went wrong but one thing is for sure; my family sure enjoyed the reheated french toast much better the my dough bombs. Well outside of my son who ate like four biscuits only because they were slathered in sausage gravy that was pretty damn good.

Horrendous biscuits aside I have been on a pretty good streak with my new passion around cooking. I started with simpler items to boost my confidence before I dive into anything too complex. Here is a sample of what I have bit off over the last few weeks (With links to a few of the recipes):

Homemade Caesar Dressing and Croutons
The Easy Pull-Apart Pepperoni Garlic Knots (Using homemade pizza dough) – -Family fucking loved these
Meatballs and Red Sauce
Chicken Dumpling Soup
-Scalloped Potatoes with Blue Cheese and Roasted Garlic

I plan to tackle homemade egg pasta in the next week or so with some borrowed equipment from my neighbors to see how fun it is to make as a family & to see if I want to invest in my own equipment. I have been enjoying diving into the cooking as it benefits the learner within me, it something I can do with my family and it is better food than what you can buy in store. My internal learner may be angering the local librarians though as I keep requesting what have to be the largest books by weight imaginable (The Silver Spoon Book I just returned weighed a little over 7 pounds).

I was disappointed in myself tonight for the dinner I prepared but have to remember:
“The master has failed more times than the beginner has even tried.” – Stephen McCranie

I am not yet a master but have to keep failing in order to get there.
